Amanda Iverson
MA MFT
As your therapist, I offer a client-centered, trauma-informed, and feminist-oriented approach, which is particularly relevant for navigating the complexities of college life. I'm trained to work with both individuals and couples, using methods such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman Method, and Solution Focused Therapy. These approaches can be especially helpful in managing academic stress, roommate conflicts, and romantic relationships during your college years.
My background in yoga influences my work, allowing me to incorporate mindfulness and body-awareness techniques that can be beneficial for managing the pressures of college life. As a relational therapist, I view my clients as part of a larger system, which is particularly important in the interconnected environment of a college campus.
Together, we'll explore how your early relationships with caregivers might influence your current relationships with peers, professors, and romantic partners. I believe that maintaining your authentic self is crucial for meaningful connections, especially in the diverse and sometimes challenging college setting.
I'm committed to providing LGBTQIA+ affirming care, recognizing that college is often a time of personal exploration and identity development. I strive to create a safe space for you to explore gender, sexuality, and other sensitive topics that may arise during your college experience.
As a sex-positive therapist, I acknowledge that some sex education and media may erase certain identities, complicating gender and sex navigation. I provide a non-judgmental environment for college students to explore their sexuality, address sexual concerns, and discuss topics related to sexual health and well-being. This includes supporting clients with desire discrepancies, infidelity recovery, navigating consensual non-monogamy or polyamory, and addressing body image concerns as they relate to sexual experiences.
My clinical interests, which are often relevant to college students, include managing anxiety and depression in academic and social settings, dealing with relationship challenges (including roommate conflicts), addressing trauma, including campus-related incidents, helping couples in college navigate their unique challenges, and supporting students dealing with long-distance relationships or breakups.
As your therapist, I'll provide a structured approach to help ease any anxiety about therapy, working collaboratively with you to meet your goals and enhance your college experience.
